So far as I know SuSE 9.3 plays nicely with ipods but I've not upgraded from 9.1 yet so I don't know. I recently installed Ubuntu 5.04 and made it read my ipod using gtkpod (after a slight modification of fstab). Anyway, there are tons of instructions about using ipods in Linux if you try googling ipod and [name of distro].

Cheers - Christine

Not only is the ipod quite well supported IN any version of linux, you can run linux ON the ipod as well ;)

After installing SuSE, just search for "ipod" in Yast and i'm sure a few things will come up.

I'm using SuSe 9.3 w/ an ipod shuffle and it works great. I'm using gnupod
Install that and follow the instructions. Runs from the command line, so less opportunties for bugs than graphical programs like gtkpod. PM me if you need any help on mounting ipod/using gnupod in SuSe.

i get a perl error

i tried to install both of them on my Mandrake 10.2 but i get errors. i get a perl error. it tells me to install XML Parser. so i did and then when i tried to install it. i got an error too. when i try to install gnupod i get this "Package gtk+-2.0 was not found in the pkg-config search path.
Perhaps you should add the directory containing `gtk+-2.0.pc'
to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable
No package 'gtk+-2.0' found
configure: error: ***"

then when i try to install this XML Parser i get this message "[root@localhost XML-Parser-2.34]# make
make[1]: Entering directory `/home/shockerz/Desktop/XML-Parser-2.34/XML-Parser-2.34/Expat'
make[1]: *** No rule to make target `/usr/lib/perl5/5.8.6/i386-linux/CORE/EXTERN.h', needed by `Expat.o'. Stop.
make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/shockerz/Desktop/XML-Parser-2.34/XML-Parser-2.34/Expat'

ok- to install software, you often need to install something that it depends on. (called dependancies) and so on. have you seen urpmi (google that and easyurpmi) and Yast for suse (again, google) that should get you dependencies resolutions.

i have yast

i checked depencies and it said it was good. i went to the web site and it was for mandrake. should i use that one?

titanium_geek 07-11-2005 09:57 PM

go with suse- you have less error messages. :)
umm... google and find and download id3tag 1.5 and install. then try again.

hope this helps.

ninjaz 07-28-2005 09:29 PM

New2Tux 07-28-2005 11:58 PM

Heard some people are using this http://badfruit.com/ gets you around soem of the iPod problems if you want to stick music on another brand of player.

titanium_geek 07-29-2005 05:34 PM

the reboot probably made Suse pick up the IPOD.
