Ipchains And Iptables

I have red hat 7.2 and I just installed squid.
Im new to all this and I am wondering what are IPCHAINS and
IPTABLES? And when or where would I be able to use them?

Thanks for any responses!

Firewall tools. IPChains for 2.2 kernels, IPTables for 2.4

http://www.google.com/search?q=iptab...torial&num=200 throws up lots of results.

try www.iptables.org for info about packege, manuals ..

or www.linuxguruz.org/iptables for real life examples

Iptables is more complicated, newer version. Ipchains is older and simplier, but still good. And easier to learn.
