IP address
I have a RH 9.0 box set up and I would like to be able to SSH into with a Putty window on another PC. I haven't installed the SSH server software yet, but I tried to Telnet into it using the hostname and was refused. I also can't seem to be able to find out what the IP address is of the RH box. I don't remember configuring one when I installed the OS. I have a DSL connection and I'm pretty sure I've got a private NATted IP address on it, but I can't tell what it is...I know it must have something because I'm connecting to the Internet. Can anyone point me in the right direction--ie where I can find the config files? I'm trying hard to use the CLI and I would like to use it instead of the GUI.

That's EXACTLY the command I was looking for! That was it. I just SSH'd into my Linux box using the IP address. Question: why wasn't I able to get in using the hostname? Also, I son't remember installing SSH, but I just got in on port 22...wierd! Bau also WAY COOL. Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

if u want to connect using the hostname, u need to have a DNS Server configured to interpret the IP Address
