internet will not work in SuSE 10

I'm running suse 10 on my desktop computer and the internet was working fine out for awhile after I installed it. But then it stopped working and I really dont think I changed anything.

I have a Westell 327w modem/router and a linksys router(just using it as a switch). In linux I have kinternet running and nothing works. When trying to access the router using 192.168.1.1 (in linux), it takes me to the linksys switch which it shouldn't, that one isn't being used as a router just a switch and DHCP is turned off on the linksys. When in windows on the same desktop everything works fine.

I can access the router on my laptop while having the linux computer on and in the LAN status of my router it shows the ip of my linux computer and the MAC of the nic, but it says inactive. I dont know what steps to take to see what the problem could be, any help would be appreciated. Thank you

i'm using verizon DSL which is PPPoE, and i have my username and password setup and connected in the router/modem. So i would think all that would have to be done is for linux to reconize the connection?

you could try to ping the router, or connect to it via telnet (I suppose you tried with http, and something went wrong)

$ping 192.168.1.1" - abort with ctrl-c
$telnet 192.168.1.1

I don't know about dsl, I have cable. But at least you will see if the connection to the rooter is the problem.

As root from a terminal, type:

Quote:
ifconfig eth0 up
This should activate your NIC card if for some reason it was deactivated. It is not impossible for an NIC to become disable for some unknown reason.

Then ping the router after running the above command.

Hope this helps

The NIC is active, and gets an IP 192.168.1.44. I can ping the router, but it's the wrong router, its the one that dhcp is disabled on, its not reading the router that connects to my dsl connection. The linksys's router is turned off and only used as a switch. I ran ifconfig eth0 up and it was up, i the did ifconfig eth0 down and then did it up again and still nothing. The NIC is active the router that i'm hooked to works fine while in windows. I can get to the 192.168.1.1 via http, but it takes me to the linksys instead of the westell, like it should. And doesn't on my windows machines.

I'm not even directly connected to the Linksys. It goes, Westell modem/router - linux box is hooked directly to that router and another cable runs off that and runs to my basement to the linksys switch which feeds a personal server and another desktop computer. When I unplug the cable plugged into the westell that feeds as the linksyss uplink, i cannot ping 192.168.1.1. So it's not seeing that router, is that router issue or a linux issue?
