Internet videos and flash.

I instaled SlackWare 10.1 three weeks ago, and thought it worked nicely.

I could surf the Internet as I could with M$ XP. Flash worked right a way. Just some videos did not play.

So I thought I try Mandriva 10.1, that I have now installed.

I am a bit suppriced to find that the videos will not work on Mandriva either
Mandriva did not have even Flash "out of the box"

Also was suppriced when running Mandriva update, where 10.1 found 80 security updates Remainds me of situation with M$ update some

So how do I fix it so I can see flash and video clips?

Would some distro have these built in?

Edit:
The video format I have had problems end with wmv:

it's usually much easier to configure what you have to do something than switch distro's ( all distro's can use the same hardware or do the same tasks - some will do it for you and some you will have to do it yourself).

what browser are you using?

For the moment I have Konqueror, but I dont know if that is the browser I want to use.
Nothing wrong with it though

So meny are using Firefox, so maybe I start to use it also.

I dont know if there is a package for Firfox in Mandriva, I have not found it yet though.

I did down load it for SlackWare and it was an easy install, but I am in the belive that if there was an Mandriva package for Firefox, it would be easier to keep it up to date with security patches ?

you should be able to get it through urpmi. depending on what your preferences are, there are a few plugins available to try out. Myself, I prefer the gxine plugin, the totem plugin isn't too bad ( IMO), and I don't like the mplayer plugin at all. Note that to play the files you want, you will need the essential-codecs package from the mplayer site ( just download it, make a directory called /usr/lib/win32, and move all of the codecs into that directory - xine based players( gxine, totem, xine_ui, etc...) will find them automatically.
