Internet speed optimizer for Linux ?
 

Well I searched http://www.google.com/linux for and internet optimizer but could not find something to be honest or I read wrong. Is there something for this kind of job in Linux ?

for what kind of connection? if you are connected to some kind of modem via ethernet there is not need for an optimizer like the old days of the 56k.

You mean all network related sysctls are by default "good" all of the time and out of the box?
No tweaking of Reno/Vegas/BIC, timeouts, device memory, etc, etc necessary?

Well Internet in South Africa is between 800-2000% more expensive than first world country's and I've got a 384K line (Download is about 40kBps) and would have liked to speed it up a bit maybe...Plain DHCP via Netgear Router.

The big problem is the netgear router. While you may be able to perform some minor tweaks to the packets coming out of your box, you will have no direct control over what the router sends to the ISP over the 384K line. In short, I don't think you'll get any measurable speed improvement unless you find a way to get around the netgear router.

If you want to tweak your network configuration, take a look at /proc. I forget where in there are the network parameters, but you can do the normal things to get better performance, tho, i forget what they are or what values are good, the defaults should be fine tho.
