If you bring up the start menu, maybe theres a "system" entry, or internet or something similar???

dunno what SuSE 10 comes wth, but there should be a "connect" facility in the menu/system somewhere.

Where have you looked ???

What is the "disconnect button"?
There is no "turn on button for the internet"

What programs--eg what browser--are you using?

i am using gnome and firefox is the internet browser but i can't use any internet wat so ever... my friend got tried to help me set up gentoo on and the ineternet still isnt working for either of them.... i have the SlI deluxe from asus and i am not sure if its hardware or software problem. i also have a router.

Are the lights burning on your hardware? Network-admin (which comes with gnome, afaik) may help you on your way. It's a bit like the network "admin" tool that comes with Windows. I don't know where your distro hid it in the menu, but typing the name 'network-admin' in a shell will probably suffice. There you can clickety-click some buttons and see what happens.

"ifup eth0" as root may work as well, but I'm not sure since I'm not a SUSE user. Won't harm you to try it out anyway.

Not working for either of them??---either of what?

Can you communicate with the router? eg can you get to its config page (typically thru a browser)

What is the output of ifconfig (type in a terminal)

Did it ever work?

also try something as simple as..
`ping google.com`
or
ping ip address of your router..
see what you get

you can also try restating dhcpcd manually
`dhcpcd -k`
then
`dhcpcd`

btw, run dhcpcd as root
