Add (or edit) 'alias ipv6 off' to /etc/modprobe.conf . (Stolen from http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=64506 )

Still no luck connecting to MSN with GAIM or pinging msn.com, though browsing the internet seems to be fine.

I also tried both
alias net-pf-10 off
alias ipv6 off

still no luck.
it could be something else along with IPv6
any more suggestions? we seem to be getting close

browser problems

Redhat and Fedora project have had known /etc/resolv.conf problems dating back to 1999!.
Try to enter your DNS server address as static in the network setup wizard. Have not done this in FC3 or 4, but in FC2, this fixed the browser problem.

Check out the bugreports @ redhat site.

Good luck!

Well, the browser problem was fixed by disabling IPv6 in Firefox.

And what I have just noticed is, MSN.com does NOT respond to pings from windows either. False alarm. Maybe not being able to connet to my MSN account from Gaim was just a coincidence. Il go and try again now.

To add:
I once had FC3 running out-the-box perfectly before, on this computer infact . . . no why did I install windows again?
It was the time when I had the Dell TrueMobil 2300 Router, with a Zoom ADSL modem.
Right, now to boot up my linux box.

You wouldn't beleive it.
A new challenge out of nowhere.

Error: Delaying initialising e100 on eth0. Device does not seem to be present.

Something like that.
I Changed nothing . . . what on earth?

Now absolutely no networking until I get this new problem fixed.

Intel Pro 100+, it is a second hand one I bought from someones ebay store, got it real cheap. It was salvage from components a company was getting rid of.

The lights on the back still show up correctly though.

Should I make a new thread for this?

PS I have tried shifting it around in the PCI socket. . . no luck

EDIT:
I have just booted Knoppix, infact I am editing this from Knoppix. Network card is fine, nothing fried. This means that the problem is FC4 specific, perhaps I have messed with some settings.

Aren't LiveCDs just amazing They really do cheer me up.
