Internet connection sharing with windoze 98

Right guys, I have RTFMed, STFWed, and I'm still clueless.

I'm currently in the process of trying to set up a 2 box network with internet sharing, 1 win98 client, with my Mandrake 9.1 box as a firewall/router running Shorewall. I have a functioning ADSL connection on ppp0, eth0 is connected to a switch, which my win98 box is also connected to.

I can ping freely back and forth between the two machines (which took me forever to configure shorewall to allow that)and my SAMBA server is running beautifully. I'm convinced that the problem is either in my configuration of my win98 box or in my etc/shorewall/masq file. Here is my entry:

#INTERFACE SUBNET ADDRESS
ppp+ 192.168.0.1/255.255.255.0 206.124.146.176

I got rid of the masq zone in the etc/shorewall/interfaces file because it was requesting to use eth0 as well as loc(resulting in a duplicate interfaces error). As soon as I did this the network sprang in to life - could this be the problem do you think?

My interfaces file:

net ppp+ detect
loc eth0 detect
#masq eth0 detect #added here to show the problem)

Many thanks

Matt (The TrashCanMan)

To paraphrase the great Homer:

D'OH!!!!!!!!!!!!

Deepest apologies people. got carried away with describing the situation and forgot to ask the question.

Why will my win98 boxnot accept the shared internet connection? Is my Linux shorewall configuration wrong for ICS with a dynamic external IP?

Thanks for your patience

Both your Linux and your Windows98 are connected to a switch
and the switch is connected to the ADSL modem. Correct ?

Are you able to ping from win98 to Linux and Linux to win98 ?
Make sure that win98 is using the Linux box as the gateway.
