ok, despite the crappy title, please help me

background:

slackware 9.1
usb adapter cable internet connection (recognised)


here's how I set up the internet:

netconfig

hostname: mandy
domain: whatever.org (this I change later)
DHCP

then I edit /etc/resolv.conf to

nameserver 203.2.75.132
nameserver 198.142.0.51
search nsw.optushome.com.au

then I edit /etc/rc.d/init1.conf

for eth1 (the usb adapter)

DHCP=yes

OK, it worked for a few weeks or so. then it just up and died. I thought I had tweaked something, and reinstalled. did it again and it worked. then a few weeks it died again. I think it can't update the IP address by itself or something... I don't know... help?

please prevent my internet connection from commiting suicide... AGAIN!

(on XP atm - net works fine)

sounds like the DHCP lease is expiring and not renewing like you suggested you can try renewing it then if that proves to be the problem you can have a cron job drop an renew the IP like once a week or every two weeks as you doctor prescribes
