Internet connection automatically hanging up in suse. Why?

For some reason KInternet connection hangs up of it's own accord on a dial-up internet connection. Have had a look at the configuration and the only thing I can see that may be relevant is "endpoint=random". Probably not the issue, but if someone can tell me how to fix it, I would be a very happy newbie

Modem init strings

I just installed SUSE 9. Had to config the modem init strings through YAST. Had the same problem with several other flavors of Linux. I have an External USB 56k. The first init string in SUSE as well as the others is ATZ.

Your strings may be different depending on the modem brand. Here are the USB strings (all the O's are number zero):

AT&F1E0Q0V1&C1&D2S0=0

2nd init:

ATS7=60S19=0M0&M4&K1&H1&R2&I0B0X4

Other wise got the hang up with exit status 16.

Hope this helps

Thanx RolledOat & ohw - it was the idle timeout. I reset it from 300 to 0 and all is well.

Aaaah, this is what makes linux and the world go round. People who help other people - if only there was more people like you and less charging $100/hr to help with a straightforward answer.

Thanx again

No problem. Now you'll help two people, and they'll help two people,...

Lots of info in forums

I picked up a lot of bits and pieces here in the forums that helped getting into Linux. With that in mind - I added to mix so that if it didn't work for you, perhaps for someone.. Besides there is a lot to learn yet.
