Internet Connection

Well this forum is for newbie's so here goes. Just installed Suse 8.0, installation went fine (I think), all my hardware seems to work fine. Problem, have I got to load the software from my ISP onto Linux in order to connect to WWW. I have loaded my user name and password at installation like it asked, the modem makes all the appropiate noises and attempts to make a connection, then it fails. Have I missed a step at installation. Like I said I am a complete novice and am begining to think I am over my head. I have ordered some guides which have not arrived yet, am relying on you good folks to help me out.

you don't need their software. launch yast2 and check your settings under ->network basic->modem.

some isp's don't seem to like wvdial, you might try kppp. the first time you start it, click new and fill in the blanks. the main things you need are user name, password, dns numbers, phone number, and you want to choose PAP for the protocol.

you could also right click on the connect icon in the kicker panel(just left of the clock) and post the last few lines of the log. might give us a clue
