From this site:

Ethernet interface: RJ-45
This means that you don't need any crazy drivers or anything to set your modem up. I suggest you pick up a CAT5 (ethernet) cable and an Ethernet card (no more than $10) if you need one. Then you should be able to just plug the modem into your ethernet card with a CAT5 cable, and get online.

Good luck!

Sorry, never used mepis. I have no clue what custom configure util it uses. To start with it may be a good idea to see if your network controller is recognized. Do this as root: "ifconfig -a". You should see "eth0" on the left along with "lo" and maybe a few others. If you do not see "eth0" then you need to install some drivers for your network card (load some modules / recompile kernel). To see what network card you have, you can type "lspci" or "cat /proc/pci" and look for a netowork controller in the list. If you do see "eth0", then I can't help you with the rest of the setup. For some silly reason, most distros have their own custom configuration utilities instead of using the standard "ifconfig", "route", etc.

Good Luck!

I'll give that a try

What I'm thinking is that my mobo (ausu k8n-e deluxe) need a driver for the lan port
I have it now i need to install it
I tried and it said that i need to use alien to debian based systems to install RPMS
i got alien and now it says something about it being read only and it cant install

any other ideas as to installing drivers?
I would really like to get away from windoz

I suggest that you post this problem to the memphis website.

Let Warren know the following details:

1. Type of Nic installed in your machine
2. what you have done to get your connection working.

Warren ( the Memphis developer) may be able to advise you on how to set up the connection in Memphis.

Good Luck,

Thorn
