Internet connection

Hi guys once again. I'm learning a little bit at a time here but i plenty of patience.

I am running a DSL200 (USB ADSL MODEM)
Mandrake 10

I have stumbled through as far as installing aciadsl and dependencies.

I run ecidasl-start | tee log.txt

It synchs OK
everything seems fine except for the last error.

couldn't get channel number: Input/output error
ioctl (PPPIOCGFLAGS): Bad file descriptor

Any ideas what this error pertains to?

ok so i keep getting this error.

couldn't get channel number: Input/output error
ioctl (PPPIOCGFLAGS): Bad file descriptor

However after some playing around i did get it as far as:
nice.connot set priority:Permission denied

but only once and i cant get that back again. I am sure i am root (su) before initiating the eciadsl start command. Does can anybody help me over this bump?
