Unhappy internet configuration on CentOS.

I have installed CentOS on my system. When I am trying to activate internet, its not working.I tried to change the mac address to what i use for win7 but CentOS is not accepting that address. It throws error like:"unexcepted mac address".same address works fine with win7 and ubuntu.I am using cable modem for a standalone pc.Please suggest what to do!

Dont try to change ur mac address , CentOS will automatically recognize your mac .

Do u use centos 5 or previous versions ?

in command mode type

Quote:
#system-config-network
Now The network configuration wizard will popup .

Now delete existing hardwares after clicking on hardware button .

Then click on device and select new > Ethernet > select your ethernet card > forward button > select automatically obtain IP with DHCP > APPLY .

Now check its working or not ,then reply back ..

Hi,

What does /sbin/ifconfig show to you, Can you see something similar to HWaddr 00:21:86:163:76 from the output of /sbin/ifconfig, which is the MAC address.

One more way is to use arp command, In my system it is:
Code:
arp -n
Address HWtype HWaddress Flags Mask Iface
172.17.70.1 ether 00:12:da:01:a8:00 C eth0
172.17.70.150 ether 00:21:86:16:d4:32 C eth0
First row is regarding my Gateway
Second row is regarding my local machine

Hope this helps..
