internet access with Alcatel speedtouch usb modem

Can anyone please advise of a distro that allows easy setting up of internet access via an Alcatel Speedtouch usb modem? I'm a UK resident using Orange (formerly Freeserve).
I have installed Ubuntu 5.10 as supplied with Beginning Ubuntu Linux (K. Thomas/Apress), dual booting with Windows, but can't find my way from this.
I particularly want Linux for Internet work.
As I think my set-up/requirement is pretty common in the UK I think the Linux community is missing an opportunity to pull in interested newbies if such a distro does not exist.
Thanks in anticipation
Howard Evans

blatantly not a success story. why did you post a question in a forum clearly marked as being for success stories only?

This thread will soon be movedf to a more suitable location.

I have a Speedtouch 330 but it was just too much bother. I bought an ethernet router (BT Voyager 205) from - it was much easier to use.

1. Sorry about wrong forum - my 1st post & I got lost (not very bright)
2. Thanks arochester. I may have to try this, but I was rather hoping that with all the distros that seem to be coming out at the moment there might be one that was Speedtouch friendly.
