Internet access sooo sloooow

Hi

3 days ago, my linux machine was running Windows XP, and accessing the Internet perfectly normally through a router (I have 2 other machines, both running XP). Now it's running Suse 10.1 Linux, and the Internet access has all but ceased. Give it enough time (like, maybe 5 minutes...) and it will eventually load a page. It seems to me to be a firewall-type problem, but I disabled that and it made no difference.

Any thoughts???

I had the same problem a couple of years ago on slackware.

It took me a good long while to work out what the hell i had done wrong. What i had done was assumed i had a static IP address and entered on apon installing. However i had a dynamic IP address and both mine and my brothers computer where running off the same IP.

Just change it to dynamic IP. I hope that is what your problem is.

Thanks for your thought, phoenixfire, but the IPs are set by my router acting as a DHCP server, and are fine - no conflicts.

Tried disabling IPV6, Lenard; no difference. It's crazy - the same machine, with the same hardware, using the same browser (Mozilla), on the same home network, was fine running XP. Some pages won't load at all (www.google.co.uk for instance!!!), and even when a page does load, it never completes - ie I never get 'Done' in the bottom left corner of the browser. Not a good intro to Linux...
