I read a PC Plus article on insdtaling Linux on a USB stick. I;ve got an 8GB stick, and want to do this.
I normally use a core2duo PC with 1GB RAM, and 250GB HDD (soon to be 500) - running WIndows XP (Don't all spit at once!).
I've got several other computers, but the USB stick option seemed a good idea and 8GB should be enough for a useful Linux OS.
Any coments, suggestions and help would be appreciated.
The PCPLUS article suggested PCLinuxOS - a friend said Knoppix.
Do I have to pay for either of these?
Where can I download them (I;ve got an 8meg broadband which runs more often than not at least 6.5meg so downloading should not be a problem.

Both can be used for free and can be downloaded from their home page. You can also visit distrowatch.com to get a survey of Linux distributions as well links to home pages. Or you can use the download section on this site.

I wouldn't really install Knoppix since it was never meant to be used that way. It essentially was and still is a livecd more than anything else even though it is perfectly possible to install it to your hard drive. PCLinux is easy to use and if you have the instructions, I would say have a go at it. Then there is also Ubuntu, which has been called a hype but whether it is or not, its popularity means that you can find extensive documentation on about anything just using google.
