Intel Nuc - No HDMI Audio available

OS - Ubuntu
PXE - LTSP
Purpose - Media center direct boot and login to Kodi

I bought an Intel Nuc to pxe boot my media center in the bedroom.

https://www.amazon.com/Intel-NUC5CPY...ords=intel+nuc

I have tested the Nuc by booting Kubuntu 16.04 flash drive and playing something from Amarok. Music plays fine to the tv. However when I pxe boot Kodi the hdmi output isn't even an option in Kodi. As such I get no sound. Been wrestling with this for a day now, lots of googling and getting nowhere.

I figured maybe a package was missing from my ltsp image so I installed the entire Ubuntu-desktop meta package to my image. Still no luck. I also upgraded my ltsp image to 16.10 figuring maybe the kernel was no good. However as mentioned Kubuntu 16.04 played audio perfectly fine.

TLDR - No audio from hdmi on media center that is pxe booted via ltsp. Audio works fine from a flash drive of Kubuntu 16.04. How to get hdmi to be an option?

PXE provides an early system to boot something with no system, usually for installation.

Why not boot the media center from itself? Why have it PXE boot?

You say "PXE - LTSP." What are you talking about?

Is this all point and click in a mad rush, or have you investigated why things aren't working? If not please do, and tell us. Then we can get ideas

FYI: Ltsp is the linux terminal server project

I have been working on this for 3 days. No mad rush. A google search would tell you what LTSP is. I am aware that PXE is nothing more than a boot method. My boot image is set to direct load the Kodi media center interface. There is very few ways to investigate with an LTSP boot. I managed to get a dmesg and the only thing it mentioned about sound from HDMI was an HDMI input, but no output line. So it never saw hdmi as a possible choice.

In the end I packed up the Nuc and am shipping it back today. I am guessing the hardware is to new for what I'm doing. Why it worked with a Kubuntu 16.04 flash drive is anyones guess but I'm done messing with it. Going to order the same hardware as my current HTCP minus the ssd and hard drives. Should work fine, already know for sure it will work as my media center is doing just fine.

I am using LTSP to pxe boot because the idea was simplification. Single point to manage multiple htpcs around my house. It works well, if the hardware supports it. I plan on having 3 satellite htpcs around my house, easier to manage from a single point.
