Unhappy Intel Ham Modem?

Hello people!
My machine has an Intel Ham V90 Modem, Ambient Chipset MD5628D-L-A. I have the drivers from the Intel webpage, they are ZIP files. How do I install the drivers? Is it that much of a hassle?
Or maybe you think I should go out and buy another modem?
Thanks for your help.
Robert

If they are .zip files, you should unzip them with the command unzip filename.zip. Then, take a look for a README file and/or an INSTALL file. If both are present, then read both. They will detail how you should install the drivers.

Just a quick note/question... are you sure you got the Linuxdrivers? It is not normal for people to zip them, usually they are .tar.gzed... it has happened before, but I just thought I should let you know.

Actually, if I were you I would invest in another modem. I used a HaM modem for a while and have many fond memories. I wouldn't switch without trying the Intel drivers first, though. Some systems work great with them, and if yours does, you've just saved $20 or so. Other than that, I would make sure I've got the right driver for my operating system and distro (like Thymox says, they tend to be in tar.gz form or rpm form, and optimized for Red Hat, Mandrake, etc.)
