intel-536ep-M-.tgz install modem
 
I have been trying to get my linux compatible modem going.
According to the instructions I am to
1 log in as root did this
2 extract the archieve ito a directory with tar -zxvf intel-536ep-M.tgz. Tried this
This is the message I recieved
Tar child: intel-536ep-M.tgz:cannot open no such file or directory.
So what do i do next.I have nt the faintest idea. I am using mandrake 9

Did you try as root?
in the terminal type "su" and then your password
if it doesn't unpack then you might try unpacking it with a navigator (such as Konquerer, nautilus or my personal favorite mc -just type mc on the command line, it may very well be already installed)

Sorry, I should have explained that i downloaded the file from the cd Into a dir, that I had created for it, in root. It was from the root terminal as su that i tried to to tar the file.
