Unhappy Integrating programs (RAR, Firebird etc.

I am running Suse 9, I downloaded RAR and extracted it but when I click on rar/unrar, nothing happens.
I Am running Firefox browser and created an icon on the desktop , my bookmarks dont hold.
Trying to get Samba to work but my win2000 only sees printer folder.
havent been able to install DivX drivers either.

Is the a site that handles the basics startup How Tos for Windoz migration?
Hate to bombard with lots of little things. Been at it for 2 days since fresh install and head spinning now .
