Intalling RH 9 with beta kernel. Is this possible?
 

Hi:

I'm having RAID problems (HTP370A), and I would like to test if these problems dissapear with the beta kernel 2.5.70.

Is possible to use this kernel during the installation?

I don't have Linux yet (because of this problem) so I can't compile or test it on another box.

Another question.
Why does the stable kernel is 4 Mb and the beta 1,5 Mb? What is missing?:confused:

I don't know any distro that includes unstable kernel. The only option I see is to insert another disk (ATA), install to it, compile the kernel and then (when it works) move everything.

The size of your kernel depends on many things. Bigger kernel means there are more things in. Stable kernel may be 1.5MB too (in fact, for me it's still big). I guess the 4MB kernel comes from a distro. Kernel from a distro must have all the drivers. When you compile a kernel for yourself, you can usually remove most of them, because you don't need them. That makes the kernel smaller.
