Installing XORG on debian based system
Hello i am trying to install XORG on a debian based system. I think it is running 'gutsy'
I went ahead and did an apt-get install xorg i went with the install but when i try to 'startx' to initialize it is not starting and then it gives a pci error My question is: Do i need to also install a desktop environment along with XORG in order for it to work? And also, what should I do to fix this error and get a gui setup on my box. Thanks, lastcall79 |
Please post the exact text of the error message. Until you do so we can only guess what the problem is.

Yes you do need a desktop environment. Xorg is the base on what the desktop environment runs.
About the problem, is your /etc/X11/xorg.conf configure it properly? Do a lspci and paste the result here. Also include the xorg.conf file also. |
