Installing XORG on debian based system

Hello i am trying to install XORG on a debian based system. I think it is running 'gutsy'
I went ahead and did an apt-get install xorg
i went with the install but when i try to 'startx' to initialize it is not starting and then it gives
a pci error

My question is: Do i need to also install a desktop environment along with XORG in order for it to work? And also, what should I do to fix this error and get a gui setup on my box.
Thanks,

Please post the exact text of the error message. Until you do so we can only guess what the problem is.

Yes you do need a desktop environment. Xorg is the base on what the desktop environment runs.

About the problem, is your /etc/X11/xorg.conf configure it properly? Do a lspci and paste the result here.

Also include the xorg.conf file also.
