Installing with Two HDs

Hey All. New to this forum, and Linux for that matter. Well heres my story...

Im currently running XP on a 80 GB Hard drive. Now, i didnt wanna mess with partitions or anything silly like that. So i bought me a second Drive. 10 gigs, perfect for linux.... now heres my issue. I have Mandrake 9.0 I want to get this onto the 10gb hard drive. But when i start up the installation, it wants to install on my 80 Gigger. I want to know how, if even possible, to get the installation to go onto my 10gig drive. I have alredy formatted it for FAT32, as is the correct form in my understanding. Im set. But now, how do i direct the installation there? Gah... i want linux so bad :( Now look at that face. Help me out here.

Heres my possible idea... Remove the 80gig, and install. It will have no choice but to go to the 10gig, unless its some type of magic computer. But then will the BIOS Settings be messed? Cause thats no good. Plus will it still give me the option for booting like that?

Gah. Help me please... im a linux :newbie:

Thank you very much :)

I'd install your XP drive to the primary master /dev/hda

10 gig Linux drive to primary slave /dev/hdb

In the install you should get the option to install Mandrake onto /dev/hdb

Also - Linux distros need their own filesystems to go on to - you dont install Linux onto FAT 32 filesystems

Mandrake can create its own appropriate Linux filesysytem during the install to go on to

So i need to remove the partition on the 10gig? Then start the installation again, and I should get an option to install to /dev/hdb? and where will this option appear?

You'll be able to delete any existing partitions on the 10 gig drive from the Mandrake installer itself - you dont need to delete it prior to installing Mandrake - yes - the Mandrake installer should pick up both drives and give you ther option of installing on either

Ok. Ill look closer. One more thing... can I use standard installation or do i need expert?
