Installing Wireless with a NetTrend TEW-424UB network adapter

I have installed Ubuntu 8.10 on my Dell desktop computer as well as my Dell laptop. Both computers had no trouble detecting hardware connecting to the internet with a wired connection to my D Link DI-524 router.

When I connect the TrendNet TEW-424UB network adapter to the notebook computer There is no green light indicating activity nor a blinking light indicating scanning. The adapter works fine when Windows XP Home Edition is booted up on both computers (I installed the dual boot option of Ubuntu.)

Being a real "Newbie" to Linux I do not have a clue as to how to resolve the problem. I am not familiar with any of the software programs used with the Ubuntu/Linux operating system.

I feel there must be a step by step coherent way of resolving this issue without a lot of technical speak; i.e. one geared to the limited experience of new user.

Any help would be appreciated.
