Installing wine on SuSE 9.1
 

Could anyone recommend a good site to get information on installing wine for SuSE 9.1?

I downloaded:

1) wine-...i586.rpm
2) wine-devel-...i586.rpm

During the installation, the manual mentions to do:

$ # apt-get install winesetuptk

I get an error: bash: apt-get: command not found.

Shouldn't apt-get come with Linux? Where can I get apt-get or is there another way of installing wine?

I don't know if you've tried yet, but open the RPM with YaSt. You said you have suse, so it should come with it. If you don't have it or can't get it (its gnu,) I suggest you download wine as source and compile it manually. I have to look up the posts on how to compile the source code manually, but i'll post it in a minute.

But if you have Yast, it streamlines, if oversimplifies, the process.

apt4rpm is available for suse, but 'apt' is the debian package manager.

I did use YasT to install those two rpms, but I don't know where the files go?

Is it better to install wine as source? What's the difference?

well, if you installed with Yast, they are most likely in the /usr/bin directory. Manually search for a link. Yast puts them in that directory. Also, one benefit of installing from source in your case is that you can choose where to compile the files.

You won't need to find them, since you'll know where you put them!

SuSE 9.1 Personal or Pro?

If it's Pro, you have wine installed already.
If you have Personal and installed the RPM then check your home directory /home/your_name/.wine
