Installing win4lin or wine in mepis live cd
I downloaded and burned the live cd of mepis 3.3, and everything was set up and running after the boot. My question is this: How do I install a windows emulator like wine or win4lin using a live cd? Do I have to install it to get other applications to work? I downloaded both win4lin and wine rpm, but when I go to install it, it gives these errors: File not found: ramdisk/root/%i and ramdisk/root/%m
Any ideas? |
You can't install software using a live CD. It runs completely off RAM and the CD itself. It doesn't touch the hard drive. Also, doesn't Wine already come with Mepis?
|
Not sure. I tried typing wine in the terminal, but it says that it's a bad command.

I can't get it to install to hard disk. I formatted a partition with ext3 like recommended, but when I go back to the OS control center and choose custom install on existing partitions, and try to choose a partition, it says none under all of the options. I click the drop down and the only thing there is none.

This may sound like a dumb question, but are you sure you formatted that ext3 partition? You committed the changes in QTParted? Also, after formatting the partition, did you make sure all partitions were unmounted before trying to install Mepis?
|
Yes. I confirmed the changes, and it formatted. I also formatted another partition to make sure. Same results. They are unmounted. I even tried to install using the entire disk and it still fails. Something is very wrong.

I figured it out. Has to be EXACTLY 2.5gb

I got it to install. I just didn't know that the partition had to be exactly 2.5gb After Install, I was able to mount all drives. Now I can evaluate if this is the right distro for me.
