installing wifi pci card

My first Linux os installed (vixta fedora 6 ), now I'm trying to learn it and here's my first problem :-

I need to get drivers installed for my wireless pci card,
I have the drivers but first need to install ndiswrapper to run them,
I have the correct version of ndiswrapper and have un-tar to a directory.
when I navigate to that directory there is a makefile and install instructions telling me to use :-

:make install

but I keep getting - make: command not recognised

any help please, or other way of installing ndiswrapper ??

Install the freshrpms-release package:
rpm -Uvh

Install the dkms-ndiswrapper package:

yum install dkms-ndiswrapper
