Installing Wifi card driver and ndiswrapper

I will learn from this, but as a complete newbie I am sitting at a new installation if Ubuntu 10.1 and I need to install the drivers for my wi fi card.

I have identified the correct drivers and have them in a folder on the system

I know I need ndiswrapper to use them

Can anyone point me to a one syllable per word explanation of how to do this? I am flumoxed by things like
click System > Administration > Synaptic Package Manager

How do you do that?

or things like

sudo apt-get install
(I can get to the terminal OK but when do use what?)

I hope someone can help

Hi, things like apt-get is used to install programs so if you where trying to install ndiswrapper you would state in the terminal at least:
sudo apt-get install ndiswrapper

Synaptic package manager is basically just a GUI version of apt-get to install in synaptic just search for it and you should find the package for installation, check it and click apply.

I hope that answers your question,

Thanks to all who helped

This is now solved by dumping Ubuntu and downloading Puppy-Lucid. This detected the WiFi card and set it up correctly with no input from me (apart from the password) - working well
