Installing wicd in slackware 13.1
 

I'm a complete beginner to linux, and I'm trying to install wicd. I've been all over the internet on this one, and it seems like every explanation assumes I have some prior knowledge dealing with slackware or linux. I know how to open Konsole in KDE, how to switch user to root, and I know that wicd is somewhere on my computer, but I have no idea how to beging to install it. I need to know
1) where wicd is (in the folder /bin, /etc, /usr ...?)
2) specifically what commands I can use in Konsole to open install it
3) if I need to configure it or reboot or anything to make it work and
4) how to open it.

If anyone could walk me through this holding my hand I'd be EXTREMELY grateful; I've been trying to get my wireless running for the last 3 days. Thanks.

su - to root and install with: slackpkg install wicd. You should read the document about the distro which you are using.

Wicd is in the extra directory of your Slackware installation disc, so it isn't installed by default. Quanta's suggestion will work or you can just navigate to the wicd directory in extra and use installpkg. Once installed, check to make sure /etc/rc.d/rc.wicd is executable (so it runs on boot) and then run it. Once the wicd daemon is running, your regular user can use either wicd-client or wicd-curses (for console) to connect to a network.
