hi,

i have installed centos and i downloaded vmware,i followed the instruction given in the website to install the vmware , i checked the kernel version it is displaying 2.6.18-8.el5xen which is not supporting.
The kernel version 2.6.18-8.1.3.el5 is mentioned in the website which is
supported.I checked out in add/remove software and in search column i typed kernel-devel,it displayed the following packages

2.6.18-92.1.10.el5.l686
2.6.18-92.1.13.el5.l686
2.6.18-92.1.6.el5.l686
2.6.18-92.1.1.el5.l686
2.6.18-92.el5.l686
these packages are not supporting , when i typed these below commands,

tar xvfz VMware-server-*.tar.gz
cd vmware-server-distrib
./vmware-install.pl

it showed xen kernel is not supported.
I found another command yum install kernel which is posted on sum other website but it displayed the following message.

Loading "installonlyn" plugin
Existing lock /var/run/yum.pid: another copy is running. Aborting.
You have new mail in /var/spool/mail/root.

please help me out, how to install vmware in centos , i will be very thankfull to them.

Well about the easiest thing you can do is download the rpm from vmware.com and use that to install it. I think you may have better luck if you did not compile it yourself.

If the xen kernel is not supported you may have to re-install your CentOS but not check virtualization during install
