Installing via Ftp, network card problem
Hello
I have searched allover the net for this answer, but maybe I have been looking in the wrong places? I'm installing Suse 9.2 via Ftp. I have 2 network cards installed. Winbond W89 C940, which is I use to connect to the Internet. The other card is 3com 3c905 and its purpose is a connection to a another computer. When I load the network modules, kernel recognizes 3com card, but not the winbond card. When loading the modules the program asks to insert parameters. First I didn't enter any information to these and 3com card seemed to work. I wasn't sure what information was needed, but I tried different stuff and nothing helped. All the info that I found on the net, went through setting the parameters with the command line. I'm getting desperate, because i've been reading a lot of manuals and i can find the answer. I am using XP at the moment and soon Suse I hope. |
Or did you? ;)

I have been looking and I know that winbond is supported, because I can choose it from the list that the installation program gives me. M$ shows range of I/O numbers like DC00-DC1F, it should be on exat parameter right? I also tried to put the irq numbers when the parameters were asked, and the program said it was installed successfully. But when checked the kernel messages, there was a message that the parameter is invalid or something. I you could tell me in which form the parameters are to be typed. Thanks |
Not sure if the IO range is for the NIC; It should be a unique number as you guessed.
Usually you type them as in the following format: IO=XXXX IRQ=YY That said, I don't have a clue concerning how to make two NICs run on the same machine :Pengy: My advice would be to put your post in the hardware forum with more details. |
