Angry Installing USB Key / Drive / Stick - there must be an easier way!

Running Libranet 2.8.1 / KDE 3.1.3

Plugged in my USB Key into the laptop and being the Windows drone that I am...I expected Linux to detect the drive and mount it for me. However, nothing happened.

Luckily I found this article and managed to install the USB drive.,00.asp

Now, I'm sure I'm missing something here. There must have been an easier way to do this. There's a program called KwikDisk (Removable Media Utility) but it doesn't allow you to add a drive or detect the drive.

This is hardly end user friendly. Is it because of my distro? Should I switch to Red Hat or Mandrake? Is there a setting/configuration and if so why isn't it defaulted to "I'm an idiot and want to do things the easy way...please waste my resources but make the OS user friendly"

I haven't used Libranet for a while, so forgive me if my memory's faulty, but isn't there an entry for configuring USB flash drives and the like in the Adminmenu?

As far as I recall, it did all the hard work for me, created the mount point, updated the fstab and so on. All I did was create a desktop icon...

There's nothing wrong with your distro, by the way. If I wasn't bound body and soul to Slackware, I'd happily use Libranet...
