Installing/Uninstalling apps in Fedora 3
hi Chaps
I'm very new to Linux. I'm running a dial boot system with 2x 80gb hard disks, Windows XP onr one, fedora 3 on the other and things work well so far. I do want to get into Linux more (Only really use windoze for games) but I'm struggling to insstall or uninstall applications. I managed to upgrade Firefox in fedora (and I even uninstalled the original version by using the Fedora setup disk) but I now cannot view links from email etc in Firefox. I'm also interested in installing applications such as wine etc but the few apps I've tried to download don't seem to work (I can't even find them readily) What am I missing, what do I need to know? any (all) advice greatly appreciated. Cheers Riff:Pengy: |
Hi Riff,
Welcome to Linux :-) Can you explain your problems a bit mor in detail, please? I would be more than happy to help you (if I can). Regarding installing software in Fedora. There is a nice command line tool called yum. You can use it to install software from the software repositories (it will download and install the packages automatically). Have a look at the yum homepage for further information (http://linux.duke.edu/projects/yum/). Any problems, just let us know. Cheers, Marco |

Thanks Marco
I managed to get an upgraded version of Firefox and delete the original version but now I can't get links in external apps to work. I've tried a couple of other apps but can't get them to run either. Cheers |
