installing ubuntu within windows xp
I noticed that there is an option to install ubuntu within windows, using wubi.
Am looking into this option as am not a great fan of dual booting or virtual programs and I'd just like to know a few things: - If I install it, can I completely uninstall from add/remove programs in XP? - Does this work through a virtual program? - What's the recommended gig amount for it and does it add a bootloader in? - Is performance the same as an ubuntu hdd install ? Basically, I'd like to know if this is a better option to dual booting. Also if I do uninstall completely will I be left with bootloader issues? Thanks |
Yes-you can uninstall it
No-it's not virtual It doesn't add a bootloader-it runs as an installed program-it will take up diskspace Performance maybe a little slower. Dual booting, and for me, 8zillion booting is good! |

Many Thanks for the responses. I took the plunge and actually installed Xubuntu 9.04 through wubi.
At the moment all seems ok, although I noticed there are issues with this: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/WubiGuide I'll post if anything goes wrong (but hope it stays right). Hopefully this will be a better alternative for me than grub or sun virtualbox, which have both caused me grief... |
