Installing Ubuntu Server on a Compact Flash Card

Hello Forum,

I am new to Linux and I am trying to install Ubuntu Server on to an IDE to Compact Flash Card. However, I keep getting this error:
kernel alive
kernel direct mapping tables up to 10000000 @ 8000-d000
ata2.00 exception Emask 0x0 SACT 0x0 SERR 0x0 action 0x2 Frozen
ata2.00 cmd c8/00 : 08:00 ………. tag 0 dma 4096
ata2.00 status {DRDY}
I have an AMD 64bit processor, so I am using ‘ubuntu-8.04-server-amd64’. I have tried two different IDE to Compact Flash interfaces and two different Compact Flash Cards but I no avail. The only other thing worth mentioning is that I am using a wireless keyboard / mouse, I am not too sure if that is likely to cause a problem (if not now then later).

Any help that anyone could supply me would be gratefully received.
Thanks very much for your time,

Harold Clements

When appears this error, on install, on your first boot?
As nobody answer, I'll do some suggestions: you can try no disable some options (acpi and irq balancing) by giving options to the kernel during grub menu. You can try the i386 version too, it will work on your amd64.

But do you know that compact flash memory presents 2 big problems:
-it's a slow (really really slow) mass memory,
-write cycles number are limited, ans in "normal" use it mean a short life duration.

That's why, generally we use system in a ram disk with a compact flash
