Installing Ubuntu from hard drive partition

Hi,
I was wondering if it would be possible to install Ubuntu from a hard drive partition.
What I was thinking of doing was to create a small partition on my disk then extract the Ubuntu image to that partition and then boot from there. Is this possible or do I have to burn the image to cd first?

Hard Drive Install
1.) Place Ubuntu ISO onto a separate partition/hard drive as to what your install Ubuntu on.
2.) When the CDROM drive fails to initiate stage 1, it will prompt you with other methods of installations.
3.) Select Hard Drive Installation
4.) Enter in the location of the ISO then begin.
