Installing Ubuntu 10.10 asking for pc-login and password

Hi, I was recently upgrading from Ubuntu 10.4 to 10.10 when with 14 minutes remaining on my install it froze and quit upon a restart it wouldn't boot correctly.

I decided to put 10.10 on a cd and it boots to a black screen asking for a login then password, login enters alright but the password won't show any characters being entered. Hitting enter results in "pc-login incorrect".

Help!

froze/login

It had n't finished. 10.10 is still in beta I think, what is the rush? When doing a major update/grade it is best to do it on the CLI (not to say you have n't), it cuts out a layer. As a beta it will not be available on 'apt-get dist-upgrade'.
What to do now ? I would reboot from the original DVD and look to 'repair broken packages' under 'rescue' or something like and then reinstall the bootloader. Clumsy but has worked for me.

Fred.

Just as an aside. 10.10 is release. I installed netbook remix clean on one box and ran the full on-line upgrade on another without incident.

Ubuntu versions get released on schedule, whether or not they are ready.

Hey Fred, no rush. Just looking for some help. No cd of my first ubuntu install. Got 10.10 on a cd, it is asking for login and password and for some reason it wont let me enter a password. I dont understand why this would happen. Any other suggestions?
