Installing the realtek r8168 on centOS 4.4

I'm reposting this here because it's actually a noobie

I'm having problems installing the internal realtek r8168
on the CentOS system I've just Installed.
using a usb (that works fine) I have downloaded the drivers
(r1000_1.05.tgz) from the Realtek site and moved them on the machine, did everything according to the readme and,
except for a few warnings it installed, but, still, it doesn't work.

I tried using the: app. > System Settings > Network,
but couldn't find the R8168.

now, when I look in the Hardware Monitor, under network devices I CAN see that it is there:

Manufac.: Unknown
Driver : R1000
Device :/dev/eth0

what can I do?

PS: loggod on as root

Have you clicked on the "activate" button (providing such a button exists in Centos - I use Fedora)? Have you supplied your IP/DNS information?
