installing suse 9.2 on same hd w/ xp

Im a serious newb.....blah blah......

I want to know if it is safe to install Suse 9.2 on my hd that I have xp on. Im a little scared to take the plunge and I dont want to give up all the crap Ive been building up for so long. I dont know too much about partitions but I can usually pick up stuff fairly quickly. But I am ready to graduate from live cd's to having the option to boot up Linux on demand. Any help would be much appreciated and remember Im very new so please try to be descriptive w/ commands or codes.

My favourite is bootitng, the trial works to resize ntfs quite safely! http://www.terabyteunlimited.com . But don't install it into your hard disk. Just use the trial! After sucessfully resizing the xp partition, (at least 2 GB less), you can use the remaining free space to install linux. Happy install!

Note: Juz backup your harddrive to be extra safe.
