Welcome to LQ.

What was the exact error message about the sound drivers? Linux uses ALSA as its sound mechanism. Once the exact error message is known, how to guide you will be more specific.

If you have a 32 bit processor, 64 bit FC5 will not install, althought the reverse is not true as a 64 bit processor will run 32 bit Linux. Support for the 64 bit FC5 is not as strong as for 32 bit at this point, so 32 bit will yield more choice overall (at least for the present.)

In most cases, the master volume for your sound is muted on a new installation. But before instructing you on that cure, post the exact error message regarding sound drivers.

the following audio device was detected.
model:technologies inc IXPSB400 AC'97

default PCM device: ATI IXP AC97 [ATI IXP AC97]

when i did the sound check following this,it says:
automatic detection of the sound card did not will not be available on the system.
you can inspect /root/scsound.log and file a new bug at

what to do?
