installing software with slackbuilds

im trying to install vlc on slackware

i googled install vlc slackware and got lead to this page that has this:

Index of /~alien/slackbuilds/vlc/pkg64/14.1

[TXT] vlc-2.2.1-x86_64-1alien.txz.md5 16-Apr-2015 10:46 62

i downloaded this file:
vlc-2.2.1-x86_64-1alien.txz 16-Apr-2015 10:46 33M

and extracted it with ark

i then made the doinst.sh executable and ran it
but it just comes up with missing directory errors

what have i got to do? i found a guide...which makes sense...im just not sure which files i need to download.

does slackware not have a function like apt or yum to connect and install packages automatically? or is that what slackpkg is?

lastly...what is the best repo to connect slack to?
looking for programs like vlc okular libre office etc etc

thanks for reading

You are making this way harder than necessary. If you do not have VLC installed, the command 'installpkg vlc-2.2.1-x86_64-1alien.txz' ( without the quotes ) will install it.

As usual, this is done as root.

If you have an older version installed, change installpkg to upgradepkg.

go to this page and look at all of the depen's links that is on it for vlc... they all lead to another slackbuild install package, VLC - SlackBuild
and if I am not mistaken VLC takes many different Codec's for playing many different types of movies, and sound, and streaming video, you may have to install these Codec's as well,

http://alien.slackbook.org/slackbuilds/vlc/build/

I suggest after you properly install vlc-2.2.1-x86_64-1alien.txz, you try running it then see what it tells you then go from there.
