installing software with slackbuilds
im trying to install vlc on slackware

You are making this way harder than necessary. If you do not have VLC installed, the command 'installpkg vlc-2.2.1-x86_64-1alien.txz' ( without the quotes ) will install it.
As usual, this is done as root. If you have an older version installed, change installpkg to upgradepkg. |
go to this page and look at all of the depen's links that is on it for vlc... they all lead to another slackbuild install package, VLC - SlackBuild
and if I am not mistaken VLC takes many different Codec's for playing many different types of movies, and sound, and streaming video, you may have to install these Codec's as well, http://alien.slackbook.org/slackbuilds/vlc/build/ I suggest after you properly install vlc-2.2.1-x86_64-1alien.txz, you try running it then see what it tells you then go from there. |
