Installing software w/Shortcuts.

When I installed my Mandrake 9.1 and booted into KDE, you have a "start" menu where there are programs and other things. Much like in "Windoze" you can click on this "start" button and open up an application or some other type of utility.

But, if you install a "new" program that is not included with the distribution, such as aMSN, or Adobe Acrobat reader you do not get a new short cut on the "start" menu. You have to go to the console and type in the name manually for the program to start.

Is there a way to get these type of applications to create a "start" menu shortcut during the install.

If not, does the application have a place for the ICON to place a shortcut in the start menu manually?

Hi,

some applications do create a menu entry (Like OpenOffice,
Kylix) ... other don't.

If they don't, right click the K-menu and select menu editor...

Look under settings you should find the menu editor. Simply select which sub menu you want the application under and press new item.

You enter what you'd normally type on the console under command. you can run it as a terminal program if you want, giving it command line options even. Set a keyboard shortcut, and even give it an Icon.
