Installing software offline

Hi,

I recently installed Ubuntu 7.04 on an old computer, this computer doesn't have a network card so is unable to access the internet. When I needed to install some extra software like VLC media player I ran into a bit of trouble.

I read the part of apt-docs regarding offline package installation but I found it really complex, also I tried downloading the packages from http://packages.ubuntu.com on another computer and installing them with dpkg, but with some thing like VLC which has so many dependencies, it is very hard to download them all, especially when they too have dependencies.

Could anyone advise me on a good way to install software offline?

Thanks

A computer without a network connection can't really be considered to be of much use nowadays!
Network cards are cheap now: £5 / $10. Buy one. Or ask a friend if they have one spare.
OR you could take your HDD out, install it in another computer that does have a network card, boot, install, then put the HDD back where it belongs. Personally I'd rather
a) Read the apt-docs until I can see a workaround, or, more likely
b) Get a network card.

I understand what you are saying, but in a circumstance where it isn't at all possible for a computer to connect to the internet, or it is too hard to download the software on the particular internet connection, is there an easy way to install the software?
