installing software

I should confess i just installed again my redhat because i was really going crazy with the keyboard.

1. I want to install staroffice i just downloaded .
2. I have a CD with some games i want to install .

Can someone land a hand ?

3. I had a question on how to acess a partition on my hd and i had this answer
- edit /ect/fstab as follows

/dev/hda5(this is actually the drive letter and partition number) /your mount point directory auto noauto, user 00

how can i know my mount point directory?

1 - star office. pretty sure it's a precompiled somethign or other so:

if it's a .bin just run it.

if it's a tar.gz of something, de compress it and run whatever's inside it, possibly 'make' but it's likely to have it's own structure init, otehr than the standard system, as it's closed source etc...

if it's an rpm, use rpm-i staroffice-vffdvdvgsff.rpm

2 - sorry, that's even vaguer... what are these files???? come on, igve us omethign to work with!!! you try takign your car to a garage and just saying... it's not working, and walk off....

3 - your mount point is wherever you want it, that's the file that defines it. base level. usually you shoudl use a directory in /mnt/
