What is the format of the file you have downloaded?

In response to above

The files are in .tar.gz

Please use tar -zxvf <tar file> to extract.

I do not know how the installation files would be in this software. If it has a file called 'configure', you can start installation by executing ./configure. I hope, it should have README/INSTALL file which will be having the steps to install it

a link to it would have helped
Google--
http://www.iris.edu/manuals/sac/SAC_Home_Main.html
last update in 2009 and dose not look to have been upkeept

most programs of this kind were built on RHEL
so see if it will install in the older rhel5.6 or the much older rhel 4.9

--- edit ---
from the README file
the os it WAS BUILT FOR is the VERY old
" Linux 32-bit: built on CentOS 4.5 (Final)."
http://www.iris.edu/software/sac/manual/README

so install CentOS 4.9 ( 4 will be going end of life in about a year or two )
