http://www.linuxhotbox.com/fun/Linux-screensavers-2.htm

I download the xscreensaver(GLMatrix) from this site, I have tar zxpvf it. I cannot understand the README file.. Please help me how to install the screensaver to my suse 10.1 .

That screensaver is available without you having to download it I think.

Go into > personal settings
> appearnaces and themes
> screensavers

and you should find it there...

What you downloaded was xscreensaver. This is THE program to run screensavers. It comes with many many screensavers by default. GLMatrix and many others are part of it.

Suse uses KDE. KDE has its own, what is called, wrapper for xscreensaver. What it means is that basically, KDE has its own way to show xscreensaver. Since you already have KDE, you don't need xscreensaver at all.

So you don't need to install xscreensaver by yourself. GLMatrix is already installed somewhere. You just need to find it.

ok. I'll try find it.

FC6 screensaver under KDE missing

Just installed FC6 and switched to KDE

no screensaver!!!

and then I tried

refresh screensaver
yum remove kdeartwork xscreensaver-*
yum install kdeartwork xscreensaver-*
yum install xscreensaver

to no avail.

all I have is blank and random.

a yum update even updated xscreensaver but still only have blank and random

This is a very common problem. I remember when I tried Suse 9.1, and did everything to get a matrix screensaver. It was then when I decided I will give a try to xscreensaver and dumped kscreensaver for it. (Later dumped Suse in favour of Gentoo. :))

Anyway, search for anyting named matrix (should be either glmatrix or xmatrix) using command:
Code:

locate matrix
There should be a binary named, for example, glmatrix. On my Suse 9.3 sysem, it is located in /usr/lib/xscreensaver/glmatrix

Correspondingly, there is a .desktop file which KDE reads, and which points to this file:
/opt/kde3/share/applnk/System/ScreenSavers/glmatrix.desktop

This is the file that is read and listed by kscreensaver. Ofcourse I am Suse which is particularly known to reconfigure everything :(, and it should be easier to find the glmatrix.desktop on FC (though I dont know)

If you dont find anything, you can just go the directory which is checked (in my case, /opt/kde3/share/applnk/System/ScreenSavers/), and create a desktop entry pointing to the /usr/lib/xscreensaver/glmatrix

Hope this helps. A guy working on FC will be of more help.

I think the FC boys will eventually find the problem

I just did a yum update and xscreensaver was in the list

I selected the random and get only the blank screen

already in bugzilla: sound card and speakers check out

but no sound when playing a CD

also a FC6 grub problem but bugzilla has no choice for "grub" report
