Installing SBC Global Dial Up

I have Linspire 4.5 and cannot get a connection into my SBC Dial up. The modem will dial up ISP and then I get a time out error. I'm running a dual boot with XP and got IP address and DNS address and so forth but can't get anywhere. Please help.
